PhD Session on Wednesday, 23 June 2021, afternoon


The PhD session will be a dedicated session of the 6th International ISEKI-Food conference organised by the ISEKI-Food Association (IFA). PhD students and professionals from industry and academia will gather to share and interact on the latest developments in the food sector.


The session will focus on the theme: Innovation for Sustainable Food Systems. Pursuing the sustainable development goals proposed by the UN, the current food system needs to be revolutionized in order to be able to feed, in a sustainable way, a constantly growing world population that is projected to reach 9.8 billion by 2050. 

The session will gather presentations from PhD students, along with contributions from invited speakers from both academia and food industry to give insights and inspire on the latest trends and challenges in the food sector. Prof. Luca Cocolin, member of the Leadership Team of the European Technology Platform Food for Life, has already confirmed its attendance!


Topics covered during the session will relate to novelties in food processing, food safety and quality, new product development, food packaging, circular economy, waste management, carbon and water footprint, and innovative strategies oriented to make the whole food chain more sustainable. Biggest challenges in the food research, main needs and expectation of the food industry, key entrepreneurial skills and competences on demand will be discussed as well. 


PhD students joining the session will be expected to present their research aims, main activities and results with particular attention on the potential impact the outcomes of their research will have in terms of sustainability. An interactive round table will conclude the session where attendees from the main conference will also be invited to join. 


Submitted abstracts will be subjected to peer-reviewing and those accepted will be included in the book of abstracts of the 6th ISEKI-Food conference. Publication of selected abstracts will be offered to peer-reviewed international journal (to be defined). 


A special award for the participants of the PhD session will be sponsored by ISEKI-Food Association. Further details will be provided on the conference website in the “award” section.
